Communication Law

I’m in the process of figuring out everything I need to do to become a legitimate freelance writer. I know I want to be a LLC, but I don’t have the funds yet to purchase it. I had no idea it’s so expensive, but now I’m nervous to write anything for publication without it. What if I make an error or omission and someone SUES me?! That’s so terrifying. I don’t remember learning about LLCs in my college communication classes. I took a Media Communication Law class, and I remember talking about getting sued as a writer, but I assumed that I would be working for a newspaper that would gladly fall on the sword for me.

In terms of figuring out what I need to do for my freelance writing businesses, I have a lot of work to do.

Chelsey, I started as a sole proprietorship. I got my tax ID number from the IRS and then filled out the necessary paperwork with my Secretary of State’s office to register my business name and make everything legit. I have published 1 ebook so far and am finishing my 2nd. If someone wants to sue me, they’re not going to get much – I am poor! You do want to have a separate business account set up but it almost sounds like you have a case of ‘analysis by paralysis.’ I would suggest you ask a couple other freelancers how they do it & just go! Best of luck ❤
