Traditionally, Valentine’s Day is reserved for romance, but I’m encouraging you to spend time with yourself one day this month for pampering and reflection. Depending on how much money and time you’re able and willing to invest in yourself, you have several different options:
Spa: If you’re fortunate enough to have the time and money to go to a spa, then book a massage, facial, and/or a manipedi. Enjoy the hands-on pampering from someone who won’t expect anything in return. Invite a girlfriend along for bonding if that’s your style. Or, you can create your own healing skin treatment at home. Set the mood with dim lights, calming music, candles, special oils and scrubs. Soak and relax, then when you’re ready to get out, rub moisturizing lotion on yourself before joining the real world again.
Hobbies: If hours soaked in oil sounds dreadfully boring to you, there are other ways you can escape for a little TLC. Dress weather appropriately and go outside for a walk somewhere beautiful. Take a restorative yoga class or try meditation. Read a book just for fun or find that exotic recipe you’ve been wanting to try. Surround yourself with natural beautiful. This could be a bouquet of flowers, a potted plant, or a sunset.
Take a break: Do something by yourself. Leave your spouse and children behind with someone responsible. Turn on Do Not Disturb on your phone and just go and be. Create space for just you as a human, as a woman. Regardless of what you choose to do to treat yourself, make sure you relax the mind and remind yourself how awesome you are. You’ve come a long way from who you used to be. You might not be where you want to be, but that’s ok. You’re on a journey in life, and you’ll get there. Accept yourself for who you are to create peace in your world.
